Hair Restoration

Are you concerned about hair loss? You have a number of options including medication like Rogaine and Propecia, along with hair transplant surgery. Another consideration is choosing PRP therapy. PRP is a safe and effective way of reversing hair loss and stimulating new hair growth. Researchers are able to regrow hair in balding patients with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)therapy with a series of injections or a manual mechanical device known a Micro needling. In the case of hair loss, the injected platelets prompt inactive or newly implanted hair follicles to enter an active growth phase, causing the hair to start growing again.
Talk to your doctor to see which treatment or combination of treatments is the best choice for you.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Micro-needling is a therapeutic mechanical device that produces thousands of tiny punctures in the scalp with a specific depth, through which the PRP can travel down to the hair follicles. Just as PRP and microneedling treatment are being used across the face and body to rejuvenate skin, boost collagen and stimulate healing, so is it being used on the scalp to stimulate new follicular hair growth and thicker, fuller hair for men and women. Rather than inject the PRP into the scalp with a syringe, we use microneedling, which is an almost painless technique, to apply the PRP. Microneedling There's no downtime or special aftercare instructions. PRP scalp treatments are usually initially done in a series of 3 monthly sessions, with touchups recommended yearly or more often if desired.

WHAT IS PRP THERAPY?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which a person's blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. Platelets are a component of blood, along with red and white blood cells. When a person sustains a cut or wound, the platelets are some of the body's 'first responders' that arrive to stop the bleeding and promote healing. To produce PRP, a medical professional will take a blood sample and put it into a machine called a centrifuge. This machine spins at a rapid rate, which separates the components of the blood. The medical professional then extracts the platelets for injection.
PRP contains a range of growth factors and proteins that speed tissue repair. As some types of hair loss result from damage to hair follicles, researchers initially hypothesized that PRP could help regrow hair by reversing the process that occurs in androgenetic alopecia.
Since then, PRP has become a popular method of restoring hair growth. Doctors have also used PRP to treat injuries to the tendons, muscles, and ligaments, such as those that people sustain during sporting activities.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

PRP is not a cure for conditions that cause hair loss. For this reason, a person would need to receive multiple PRP treatments over time to maintain hair growth results. The doctor's recommendations for how often a person should have PRP will vary depending on a person's condition and the results of their initial treatment. The doctor may suggest having maintenance injections every 3–6 months once hair loss is under control.

PRP FOR HAIR LOSS SIDE EFFECTS:

PRP therapy consists injecting your own blood into your scalp, as there are a few risks of a reaction. PRP treatments for hair loss may experience the following side effects:

  • infection
  • scar tissue
  • scalp tenderness
  • swelling
  • a headache
  • itching
  • temporary bleeding at the injection site

There's also the chance that you could have a negative reaction to the anesthetic used in the therapy. If you decide to pursue PRP therapy for hair loss, let your doctor know in advance about your tolerance to anesthetics.
